Associate Director – meaty, issues-rich projects within highly regulated industries

This consultancy is made up of heavy-weight practitioners who launched an agency to service large mandates from controversial brands and are putting together a team of smart thinkers to service international media campaigns with a difference. This Associate Director will work closely with the Head of Newsroom and the CEO to help build the agency’s media relations capability across the globe with branded and unbranded comms. Join a highly entrepreneurial team to help shape the agency’s positioning and gain exposure to state-of-the-art digital comms techniques, as well as issues-rich comms campaigns.

The Company

This agency advises controversial international companies. Their aim is to help influence regulation and stimulate public debate around the unintended consequences of certain elements of regulation. They are currently building their team and looking to expand their client base. The leaders are inspiring and come from heavy-weight agencies and have an impressive track record in building and growing agencies so you will be learning from day one.

The Role

Key challenges and opportunities in this Associate Director role:

  • Help shape the agency’s positioning, their marketing and get out with the CEO to identify and meet clients as their right-hand person
  • Leverage your contacts to work on new business to then manage client campaigns although bringing in more clients is the emphasis first off
  • Support controversial, heavy-weight clients in alcohol, tobacco, plastics and energy to navigate regulatory challenges by engaging in public conversations and debates
  • Use your strong writing skills and sharp brain to advise and support clients and leverage your media contacts to write about highly regulated issues
  • You don’t need to be a digital expert, but you will utilise digital platforms and have articles published online

The Person

Key attributes and experience for this Associate Director role:

  • It is likely that you are currently an agency Associate Director or at least a Senior Account Director level, wanting to work on meaty, issues-rich projects and learn some state-of-the-art techniques
  • You will be media savvy with a positive attitude and not afraid to pick up the phone to pitch story ideas to national and international news desks
  • You will be highly personable, credible and great with clients
  • A strong writer with an ability to adapt your style to the job, whether it’s a press release or writing an op-ed
  • Enjoy getting involved with new business and help shape the future of the agency
