This asset management company manages assets of over £200 billion and employs over 1,000 staff worldwide.

The Works Search specialises in retained assignments, placing Global Heads of Communications in-house and agency Partners/CEOs. Our knowledge and network of the industry gained over the last 14 years is to be admired and we filled 100% of the search assignments we have handled. All of the Heads we placed have passed their probation with flying colours and we aim to find the best person in the market for the job.

The Search Brief

This Asset Management firm engaged The Works Search to undertake an Executive Search Campaign for the newly created role of Head of Public Relations and Thought Leadership, reporting into the Global Head of Marketing and External Relations.

Objectives and Aims

The assignment was to source a senior communications professional who we rated in the top 5% of the industry with experience in journalism and in-depth knowledge of asset management and adept at crisis communications. They also needed to have strong team management expertise and a thought-leadership track record.

We faced the challenge of sourcing candidates with all the different facets rolled into one person and getting just the right level of expertise and cultural fit, which was important to our client.
We advised on the most appropriate salary and committed to sourcing five candidates for the campaign, conducting interviews, taking two character references per candidate and for 1st stage interviews to take place within three weeks.


The Works Search used its extensive network and industry connections to identify a selection of high calibre professionals with a profile that met the client’s requirements.
Candidates on the long list were interviewed briefly over the telephone and a shortlist was then invited to meet with MD Sarah Leembruggen for a behavioural and competency based interview. Interview reports were written.
To ensure the highest quality, two character references were taken on each candidate and 6 candidates were then presented to the firm for interview. They had requested 4 candidates for the shortlist but we aim to over deliver.
The campaign involved a series of three interviews with the Global Head of Marketing and External Communications, the Head of Talent Acquisition, the CEO and department heads.
Two candidates were selected for second stage interview.

The Outcome

The global Asset Management firm were delighted with the quality of all six candidates met at first stage, commenting that they had never seen such an impressive selection of candidates, commenting on the high calibre and exact fit for the brief. They were ‘delighted’ with the shortlist.
The selected candidate for the role impressed with his journalism background and feeling for what makes a great story and the search itself ran seamlessly as Sarah delivered in all areas to make it a smooth process.
All involved parties, client and candidates, were impressed with the professionalism and care taken throughout the whole process and were kept informed at every stage with detailed feedback. The now Head of Public Relations and Thought Leadership gladly accepted the made offer.
