Law Firm - PR Executive

A leading global law firm were looking for an intelligent PR Executive following the resignation of the professional in that positon. They had already briefed several professional services and marketing recruitment agencies and hadn’t found anyone suitable although they had interviewed a few people.  The calibre just wasn’t there.  They were slightly concerned as the person had already worked out their notice and the rest of the team were feeling the pressure. They were recommended to come to us through their network and were in a slightly desperate situation.

They needed a PR Executive or Junior Account Manager ideally from a PR agency with an understanding of professional services and great media handling abilities.  The search was to find an intelligent professional who had worked broadly in professional services and had an interest in law firms and a passion for current affairs.  Ideally they wanted to interview people within a week, max two. 

We faced the challenge of sourcing candidates in an incredibly candidate driven market at a level where there was a short supply of brilliant people who are interested in moving to an in-house communications team at this early stage of their career.

The ideal person would need excellent press contacts and strong writing skills.We advised on the most appropriate salary and gave examples of the types of candidates we may be able to source. We also discussed that there would be probably be no more than three outstanding candidates.   


The Works used its network and the expertise of the market to brainstorm a list of possible candidates who might be appropriate and which agencies would be worth targeting to find more. 

Candidates on the long list were interviewed briefly by telephone in the first week. A shortlist was then selected and then thoroughly interviewed face to face by Miriam Hanna, one of our Consultants.

The outcome 

One candidate was sent through first and because they were such a good match, they progressed incredibly quickly and were offered the role within 7 working days of the first interview much to the relief of the firm.
